Philip Kingsley Elasticizer: The Cult Hair Treatment That Lives Up to the Hype

When it comes to iconic hair treatments, few products have achieved the cult status of the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer — and after finally working it into my haircare routine, I completely get why. Initially created for Audrey Hepburn to keep her hair soft, strong, and camera-ready, this pre-shampoo treatment has earned a loyal following for a reason.

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Review

What Is the Elasticizer?

The Elasticizer is a deeply conditioning hair treatment designed to improve hair’s elasticity, bounce, and manageability. It’s applied to damp hair before shampooing — which, admittedly, feels a little unconventional at first. But trust me, it’s worth the extra step.

Packed with ingredients like hydrolyzed elastin, castor oil, and olive oil, it works to strengthen hair strands, reduce breakage, and restore softness and shine. It’s suitable for all hair types but especially ideal for dry, damaged, chemically treated, or heat-styled hair.

How I Use It

On wash days when my hair’s feeling brittle or dull, I’ll dampen it, generously coat the mid-lengths and ends with Elasticizer, and leave it on for about 20 minutes while I do my skincare routine or scroll through emails. On particularly rough hair days, I’ll pop on a shower cap and let it soak in for longer. Then I rinse it out, shampoo, and condition as usual.

The result? Silky, soft, manageable hair that feels noticeably healthier from the first use.

Why It Stands Out

What I love about the Elasticizer is that it genuinely delivers immediate and long-term results. My hair feels softer and looks shinier right after rinsing, but with regular use, I’ve noticed less breakage and far more bounce. It doesn’t weigh my hair down or leave it greasy, which is a huge win for fine hair like mine.

Plus, it’s free from parabens and sulfates, making it a great option for anyone mindful of what they put on their hair.

Final Thoughts

If your hair needs a little extra TLC — whether from heat styling, colouring, or just life in general — Philip Kingsley’s Elasticizer is absolutely worth the hype. It’s the kind of product you don’t realize you needed until you try it, and once you do, you won’t want to be without it.

I love alternating this mask with another favourite, the Intense Nutrition Hair Care Mask from Sisley Paris, which I've reviewed here. For aftercare, I alternate between the Revitalizing Fortifying Serum and the Soothing Rebalancing Cure (review here), depending on how my scalp is behaving. Also, I make sure to brush my scalp and hair with my favourite hair brush (review here).
