I am still swooning the spring makeup launches from Dior which I reviewed here and here we have the summer launches to keep us glowing and fresh. From the official description of the Dior Cool Wave Summer Collection 2018, ‘The heat of the sun sun and an indigo pool, the clash between hot and cold, sensuality fusing with the skin. Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, sets the stage for a summer at its zenith with an effervescent collection that explores the contrast between aquatic blues and euphoric shades.
From these splashes of color and intense transparency springs forth a vibration all its own, both romantic and pop-art. “It's like the splash of an incandescent body diving into cool water,” describes Peter Philips. “Formulas with a cooling effect in energetic colors melt into the sun-kissed skin.” For me, the collection has taken the basic essence of the summer and the collection is so practical which can be used and enjoyed during the summer for its vibrancy of shades, freshness in formulas, and the ease of use. Whether it is for work, for shopping, for pool time, and for vacation, the pieces in the collection can all be used as well as they are very travel-friendly.
Cool Wave – 5 Couleur Eye Shadow 597 Heat Up
After the long winter, while dreaming of summer, the first scene that comes into the mind is color of the tanned skin, the bright blue of a lagoon or the bronze hues of the later summer. Inspired by that dream, there are two 5 Couleurs palettes that feature a pattern like a ripple of a drop hitting the surface of the water, the effect is captured by the palette so perfectly. The 5 Couleur Eye Shadow 597 Heat Up (CAD $73) is about all the hues from the sun, the palette has luminous brown, coral, and nude shades. The formula is very creamy, an ideal combination to create multiple looks on eyes this summer.
From the picture, the top two shades would be perfect for a daytime look while the lower two can add the intensity to the look for either day or night wear. For my medium tan skin tone, the shades are more than perfect to even have a little hint of summer or for having that smudged-kohl, mysterious look. The formula blends easily and builds up quite well. The formula is nicely pigmented, so make sure to get the hold of it before working on a full look. Just want to mention that the top right shade from the palette is quite opaque on me, it does give a highlighting effect and also good as a very subtle shade, which I am really liking. I did notice the formula of the top right shade is a bit hard to work with compared to the other four, which are very creamy. I have already used this palette few times and love the versatility of it, the shades are perfect to create some amazing looks.
Splash On The Eyes – Diorshow Cooling Stick
Diorshow Cooling Stick (CAD $41) is a sleek, very sophisticated looking eyeshadow stick. The pencil glides along, leaving a feeling of freshness and solid color with a wet-effect finish bright with sunlight. It features a formula brimming with water for a gorgeous, fresh feel, Diorshow Cooling Stick unfurls its seductive bronze, precious gold and ingenue pink along the lash line or as a highlight in the inner corner of the eye. Diorshow Cooling Stick is a waterproof beauty booster is perfect for relaxing tired eyes and toning the eyelids.
Diorshow Cooling Stick in 001 Bronze Wave and 002 in Gold Splash is in the swatches below. For my medium tan skin tone, they have been a really great addition to spring, summer, and for even fall. They are easily buildable and the formula glides on pretty easily. The shades are very practical and can be used in the regular routine. Once applied, it does give a fresh light sensation and then it fades away, that cooling fresh sensation relaxes the eyes. Other than that, the staying power is good, the ease of application and the travel-friendly packaging is all a plus.
Taking Summer Vertical – Dior Addict Lip Tattoo
Dior Addict Lip Tattoo (CAD $37) has been here for quite some time and when the product like this is much loved, more shades are always welcome. The staying power, formula and the packaging has impressed many, including me, I reviewed few shades here last year and today, I have one shade to share with you called ‘Watermelon'. If you have not yet tried this product, Dior Addict Lip Tattoo is a tattoo-finish lip ink with a no-transfer finish and an extreme 10-hour hold. The new shades are bright and vibrant, the formula is ultra-pigmented with water finish and nude feel fuses with the skin of the skin of the lips in a matter of seconds like a temporary tinted tattoo. Watermelon is a bright, mouth-watering pink shade and the tint it leaves is beautiful bright pinks which looks very natural after the product wear off the lips after few hours.
Cool Summer – Dior Addict Lipstick
Dior Addict Lipstick (CAD $44) is a concentrate of Dior and a palette in summer shades. It has a hydra-gel core which makes it stand out for the hydration and that shine it imparts to lips. There are beautiful shades launched which embrace an epicurean season with essential colors, the shades include an effervescent orange, a bronze nude, a sensual coral, a graceful pink, a dizzying fuschia and a blue-toned shimmery shade. The swatches I have below are for Dior Addict Lipstick 090 White Splash and 411 Nude Chill.
The formula glides on very easily, very comfortable to wear, hydrating to the lips as well provide a beautiful shine. There is no dryness or any feeling like that even after it wears off. The bullet is designed beautifully with the logo in the middle, such classic packaging, heavy and shiny.
Cool summer – Dior Lip Maximizer
Dior Lip Maximizer (CAD $42) is inspired by the Dior backstage, it has the mint extract that gives off instant freshness, irresistibly plumps the lips and creates an incomparably shiny smile with icy blue accents. The shade available in Dior Lip Maximizer is 011 Pool Blue. The formula is easy to wear, gives a cooling sensation and is comfortable to wear. It does give an oomph to the lips by plumping them a bit and the shine is so gorgeous. The effect stays on for a while and the shine adds on to the effect to give a beautiful finish.
Comic Strip – Dior Vernis
Peter Philips explains, ‘For a summer synonymous with playfulness and freedom, I wanted to come out with a collection of bright nail colors that women can use to express their creativity and personality'. The bright nails, this summer, are called Wizz, Splash, Blop, respectively in coral, denim, swimming pool blue shades. The Dior Vernis (CAD $34) is enriched with a pearly shimmer that catches the sunlight, sexy like a bikini and fun like a pop song. The shade I have on my nails is 404 Splash and I am really liking it. It is fun summer shade and I am planning to sport it with many outfits, the bright swimming pool blue shades do enhances the mood already as is Ice storm outside here in mid of April.
Overall, a beautiful and very practical collection that can be used for all occasions, during spring, and summer. The collection is worth checking out, the shade range and products will suit most of the skin tones, and don't forget when you wear the seasonal makeup and shades, there is the mood factor too which makes you feel more beautiful.
