Parfum De Marly

During the reign of King Louis XV, perfume became very famous in France. Parfum De Marly recreates the splendour of the Eighteenth Century. Delivering outstanding fragrances that bear the names of dignified breeds of horses. The brand produces male, female and unisex perfumes alongside scented candles. Since I tried my first fragrance from the brand, I have been in love and curious to try more creations from the house.

Haltane

Dressed in its dark green and gold bottle, Haltane is a perfect representation of Harrods. Using the finest ingredients, from its dark woody tones to the freshness of herbal top notes. It slowly reveals its sweet spicy character through a soft and rich amalgam of saffron and praline accord. Haltane is the definition of sophistication. Existing in a single format of 125ml it currently stands at a sale price of USD $395. You can find it in several places, including the official website and Parfum De Marly stores.

The Notes

With so many rich and strong scents, Haltane found a perfect balance between light and dark, sweet and spicy.

–Top Notes: Bergamot, Lavender, Clary sage.

Surprisingly when first smelling the perfume you will notice a fresh sweetness. These floral notes are the key to balancing out the spice.

–Middle Notes: Saffron leathery exotic, Cedarwood, Praline present, Elder wood.

Those of you who have experience with Saffron in cooking or other fragrances will pick up on this note easily. In Haltane it adds a leathery exotic touch.

Another pretty clear note is the praline. Making the middle notes smooth and round.

–Base Notes: Agarwood (Oud) and Cedar.

Often used as a base note in perfumes, Agarwood adds intensity. With its woody, incense smell it is sure to stay with you for hours.

My Review

It is never good to judge a book by its cover, which certainly applies to Haltane. On the first appearance, I was expecting a green, earthy perfume. But hidden inside is a rich spicy concentrate.

I would say that this perfume is for someone who doesn't want an average perfume. A person who wants an extra oomph! Although we find many spicy, Oud fragrances, it stands apart. All of the notes work in harmony, including the strong woody base. With such a rich composition I wasn't surprised that the fragrance lasted 7-8 hours.

I do not think this is your everyday office perfume. It has something luxurious about it, a certain elegance. Haltane would be perfect for special events and for cold days. The perfume is sure to enchant all of those around you. It is said that men and women can wear this fragrance, although the woody tones are very present giving certain masculinity to it. All in all, this is a high-quality perfume that is surely worth its price. The bottle's design is minimalist for such a high price but then again it's what's on the inside that counts.
