The Scent

The Opus V woods symphony is a universal, Floral-headed, fumy fragrance. It was inspired by our modern world and tells the story of humans living amongst machines through its notes. With a dry woody touch, the perfume is balanced out by its gentle mineral heart.

This perfume is an investment well made. With its highly concentrated Eau De parfum, the notes last all day long on the skin. Available in a 100ml format and ranging at 325€.

Key Notes

Top Notes: Orris Absolute, Rhum.

The perfume opens up with a scarce ingredient: Orris absolute. Warmed by notes of Rhum, the scent gains a round, warm touch. With its fresh, earthy notes, the roots add character and a slightly peppery touch to the fragrance.

Heart Notes: Orris Concrete, Rose, Jasmine.

At the heart of the perfume, we have a floral trio. The freshness of a white flower, the rose's elegance and the Orris's strength. Makes this perfume a delicious sensorial experience.

Base Notes: Agarwood, Civet, Dry Wood Accord.

Something is comforting about a woody fragrance. Maybe it is the released smoothness or the skin-like scent that we can relate to. Like most perfumes, the base notes are warmer and wooden-based. The great thing is this adds hours and hours to your perfume's longevity.

The Opus library collection has a simple but elegantly decorated bottle. Dress in a powdered pink colour; the bottle holds the Amouage logo engraved on a black metal plate on the front.

My Review

Amouage doesn't stop surprising me! When discovering this perfume, I went in with an open mind. Generally more of a fresh, floral lover, I wasn't expecting to like the scent so much. My first impression was, “wow, this is strong,” but once I left it on my skin for a minute or two, I liked it. The perfume evolves into a warm, rich fragrance. I find this is better suited to men, but ladies, please do give it a try. The perfume is great for autumn, inside a coat or scarf. A little pricey, but I understand why when using such high-quality ingredients. The fragrances in the Library collection push the boundaries of perfumery and offer brand-new notes.

The Scent

First of all, what does the perfume smell of? Amouage created an elegant Floral Amber fragrance to represent the mystery of the rosebud.

Built around the majestic flower, the fragrance takes you on a journey through a woody, modern note. While looking through the many ingredients that compose this perfume, you will come across some of the rarest and not-so-known star notes that are bound to leave you wanting more.

Top Notes: Elemi, Olibanum (Frankincense) Hyper Absolute, Black Ink Accord.

I know this sounds like a catastrophe, but this trio is marvellous. Amouage selected three uncommon and harmonious notes to kickstart the perfume with power. The fresh scent of Elemi, the smoky scent of frankincense and the sharp note of black ink.

Heart Notes: Damascena Rose Water Essential, Suederal, Frankincense Absolute.

Amouage added sweet rose water and a powdery federal note to follow up. Bringing class and roundness to the perfume.

Base Notes: Myrrh, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Cedarwood.

Last of all, the warm, woody notes of vanilla and sandalwood. Mixed, they create a recomforting scent. These are also the notes that will last in the fragrance.

The Library Collection

Amouage knows how hard it can be to choose a single perfume. And for that reason, the brand created multiple travel/ miniature formats collections. OPUS XII ROSE INCENSE os sound in the recent library collection. Both men and women can discover and play along with three other scents.

My Experience

Amouage fragrances are generally a big or miss as unique as they come. Made for those who want a stand-out, unique scent that not everyone can wear. Having quite a few Amouage fragrances myself, I was curious to discover yet another perfume from the brand.

The Opus XII rose incense perfume was a pleasant discovery. The rich floral notes are wrapped with a mysteriously addictive smoky note. Lasting all day on the skin, this scent is perfect for those wanting to be noticed. What I love about the perfume is that the rose becomes a not-so-innocent fragrance. As a lover of vanilla, I was pleased to see it included in the formula.

I recommend this perfume to men and women who enjoy a stronger character perfume. It is 100% giving off niche perfume vibes and could be the next Amouage fragrance I purchase.

The matte greyish bottle is capped with a minimalistic black lid. Golden details highlight the name and bottle to give it a more impactful look. Although this is an investment, I think this kind of originality deserves it.

Overture Man

Overture is a woody scent inspired by man’s solitude in the world. Using dramatic and bold ingredients Amouage delivers a fragrance of confidence. Created by Karine Vinchon-Spehner, a French perfume creator. Overture is composed of contrasting raw materials, which reflects the alternation of rhythms in life and opera.

Yes, you heard correctly. The perfume's name, Overture, defines the opera's opening. A short piece that alternates slow and fast rhythms to set the right mood for what follows. This is why Amouage decided to use such contrasting raw materials.

The Notes

Let's take a closer look at the fragranced juice.

With top notes of Grapefruit, Cardamom, Cumin, Ginger, Nutmeg, Saffron & Cognac accord. It sets the tone for the following notes. The acidic, spicy top note is balanced to perfection. Spiking your interest as soon as you smell it.

Following are the heart notes of Cinnamon, Lentisk, Benzoin, Ciste Labdanum, Patchouli, Geranium & Myrrh. Just like the heart, they pulse through the perfume. Giving an earthy floral note to the fragrance.

And last of all come the base notes of Sandalwood, Smoky Leather, Clary Sage, Animalic accord & Incense. These notes are the everlasting, smooth and sensual notes that stay with you all day. They give the perfume a round, classy touch.

The Bottle

Amouage designed the bottle in a simple but effective manner. Through the frosted glass, we can perceive a brandy-coloured blend. The bottle is decorated with a crowned magnetic bronze cap and a metal plate with the Amouage logo. Below are the pictures of Overture Woman (left) and Overture Man (right).

My Experience

Amouage Overture Man is a long-lasting boost of masculinity. With its oriental style, the perfume is the final touch to your outfit. Overall, I find it to be a perfect balance. Not overpowering, this perfume will accompany you on your journey. May that be a professional meeting, a night at the opera or a simple day out. I would recommend this perfume for the winter or evenings due to the warm notes inside.

The international luxury fragrance house is a combination of East meets West. Crafting scents with the purest ingredients they have an eye for detail.

Bold, cultured, and full of mystery.

Overture woman EDP is the very essence of a modern woman, inevitably attractive, completely addictive and endlessly mysterious. Created by Master Perfumer Annick Menardo, using rare and unique ingredients. This amber, woody fragrance tells the story of an opera performance. With its warm, oriental notes it would make the perfect winter perfume for your scarf or inner jacket.

The Notes

When looking a little closer at the notes in this perfume we quickly understand that it is not for the faint-hearted. If you like soft, fresh scents, this probably isn't for you.

Top Notes: Bergamot, Saffron & Apple (Calvados Accord): In the first burst of fragrance we get a fruity, sweet saffron note. Some would say it smells similar to Calvados.

Heart Notes: Benzoin, Myrrh, Rose Centifolia, Geranium, & Cinnamon: From the heart comes the powdery floral notes. This gives the perfume a touch of elegance and femininity.

Base Notes: Pyrogenic Incense, Ciste Labdanum & Leather Vitessence: Last but not least you will discover the deep, smoky leather notes. Giving the perfume an eternal scent you will not forget.

Amouage has a unique style when it comes to fragrance making. They deliver unique scents rather than scents that are people pleasers. It gives off “niche” perfume vibes.

My Experience

Knowing the unique style Amouage has, I expected nothing less. Amouage Overture Woman is for women who want a bold, impacting fragrance. It is about more than the fragrance, it's a declaration. Although it is marketed for women, men could find happiness in this perfume. With its long-lasting scent and rare, rich ingredients. Overall, Overture is definitely worth the high price.

I recently gifted my man Epic Man from the house of Amouage, and I have started to adore this scent with time. The inspiration was two-fold: the legendary Silk Road and Puccini’s Turandot opera. This whole inspiration is set in China based on a tale involving a Persian princess and a deadly riddle. 

A man’s scent says a lot about his personality. And just like the ladies' version of this scent screams femininity, Amouage Epic Man emits a strong, masculine message. It contains some of the most finely-sourced ingredients, which all work together to form the perfect oriental, woody scent.

Key Notes

The Keynotes are:

• Top Notes: Pink Pepper Berry Essence, Frankincense, Cumin, Cardamom Essence, Saffron, Mace Essence, Nutmeg, Myrtle Essence.
• Heart Notes: Geranium Essence, Myrrh Essence.
• Base Notes: Oud, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Leather, Frankincense, Cedarwood, Musk, Castoreum.

This fragrance is predominantly spicy with top notes of pink pepper berry essence, saffron, nutmeg, cumin, and cardamom. It has base notes of sandalwood, patchouli, frankincense, musk, oud and leather. They all give the scent a real expensive feel. All of them make for a manly, distinctive fragrance that can fill a room. Moreover, just like the female version, a little bit of this goes a long way. You don’t have to spray much to get maximum effect. The fragrance has quite a high price point, but you only need to use it a little at a time because it's so potent. This means it’ll probably last a lot longer than another scent that isn’t as concentrated.  Overall, I can feel the extreme performance, sillage, and uniqueness.

For myself, I love the female version of this fragrance, Epic Woman. Epic Woman represents an endeavour run by strength and ambition, while the male fragrance, Epic Man is a compass on the Silk Road.
